What We Do

Here at Southernlyon Designs we produce unique wooden items designed to be beautiful and functional.  All our pieces are hand made in our local shop here in Charleston, SC.  Is there something specific you're looking for?  Contact Us and we'll see if we can produce that special one-of-a-kind item for you.

Pen production is in full swing at Southernlyon Designs!  Our fine writing instruments include Slimline, comfort grip, and "click" pens and pencils as well as gel, rolllerball, and fountain pens.

Looking for a way to personalize our pens and pencils even more?  There are 15 'shaped' clips, examples of which can be seen in the Gallery and over 60 round pen clip logos, like the Sheriff's pens which can be seen in the Gallery. 

Still not personal enough?  Laser engraving is also now available in partnership with Palmetto Engraving for a small additional fee.

There's so much going on a Southernlyon Designs that we've been too busy to update our website.  That said, we still don't have time to give you a full update, but here's a  "sneak peek" of some of our newest items.  Come check them out in person- Where Will We Be? is a great way to find us!

COOL NEW STUFF FOR MAY 2008!

Sweet Gum Oil Lamps- Made from Tennesse Sweet Gum trees, these lamps are turned from split logs and still have the bark around the top edge- a very unique looking item- we can hardly wait until we have pics of these!

Bracelet Helpers- These "extra hands" make putting on your favorite bracelet so much easier!

"Burly" Pens- We're carrying a whole new type of wood for pens.  These dyed burls, which are growths on trees that have unusual or irregular grain patterns are absolutely gorgeous and available in a rainbow of colors.  They look a lot like marble but yes, like everything else we turn, they are indeed wood.

'Whiskey Pens"- Oh are we having fun with these!  We have very reccently aquired a portion of an empty Jack Daniels cask.  These casks are made from White oak, are well seasoned and stable, and are now being offered as a limited edition slimline pen with either copper, black enamel or black chrome fittings.  Olivewood smells like olive oil when it's being turned.  You can guess what these smell like.

Sculpted Pens and Letter Openers- We sold our first letter opener as a custom order in April.  It turned out so well, we are now carrying these as part of our regular stock. The matching pens make a great gift idea, and Father's Day is approaching.   The fittings for these pens are black and gold with four great paterns to choose from.  They're probably the heaviest pen we have, and write smoothly since they take a Parker style gel ink refill.

HAVING A FUND RAISER?   GET A PEN FOR FREE!

There are a lot of great organizations out there doing lots of great stuff, but you know that- you're probably involved in a few of them.  Southernlyon Designs is also commited to giving back to the community, and supporting some of the causes that you support too.  That's why we always have a spare pen floating around for a good cause.

 Most reccently we donated a pen to the Lowcountry Susan G. Komen Foundation for their annual Survivor's luncheon.  We have also contributed pens for silent auctions for the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina, Creative Spirit UCC, and Jesuit High School.  We've also participated in the  Freedom Pens Project.  This program collects hand made pens and sends them to U.S. military personel overseas.
